de-interlacing
Hi everyone!
I’ve just finished a project with AE and edited the clips in FCP. My final video will be for TV-broadcast in PAL and the internet. Now I know that I can export the footage for the Internet without any fielddominance, but I’m not quite sure about the way to go for my TV-output. I know that PAL is lower field first. My footage in FCP is all upper field first. Must I de-interlace the footage to lower field first?
Just thought I’d drop the question…

oops. Just noticed that FCP has already deinterlaced my footage because the sequence I built the Video in is set to DV-PAL. So I guess that solves the problem! And now I know why I alway had to render each clip the moment I set it in my DV-PAL timeline…
I guess next time I should cross-check my render settings in AE so that I can miss out the step of FCP having to render upper to lower fields.Cheers!

Hi Steve,
If you drag a clip in Fc to a time-line that got the opposite field order, FC set a “Field-shift” filter in each clip to compensate that difference. As you says, if you started with “lower-first” and you want to finish in “lower-first” you could have avoided this step exporting from AE “lower-first”.
Everything that you do for the web must be de-interlaced. You can do it in FC or in the application you use to compress it (Compressor, Squeeze, Cleaner..) otherwise will look bad.
