De-interlace??
Posted by Hamid Rohi-bilverdy on May 21, 2009 at 10:24 amHi..
I have captured a short clip of my self in front of a green screen. I captured the clip using PPro cs4. Now I edited this clip in after effect cs4. Everytime I have made an edit to my source footage and render it, is allways shows BIG de-interlace issues!! Everytime the object moves ( ME ) it shows signifant de-interlacing.
How can I fix this interlace. I recorded on my DV cam and I use the default 720 frame settings for the DV-NTSC settings.
I have the cs4 collection pack. Is there any application here which can remove the interlace.
Best Regards Hamid

May 21, 2009 at 4:05 pmIt is showing interlacing lines, which you have really no control over, other than shooting progressive (on a different camera).
This will not show on any TV (LCD or old CRT), and most of today’s media players will remove those lines on a computer.
Now for the web:
The only way around it is to export Progressive (de-interlace), and Premiere has that option in the export settings, but you will lose half your resolution

May 21, 2009 at 7:11 pmHi Vince.
Thanks for your reply.Ok, I am going for the web option. so as you say this option is availeable in PPro CS4, so I wanna try it out, even if I loose some resolution, I saved it to go back.
So in the eksport menu in the video bar, there is an unchecked field with the text ” Allow interlaced processing ” Should I check this to remove my lines??In the future if I make clips and if I want to avoid interlaceing, I should get another cam? Can you recommend any cheap DV cams??
Thanks a lot.
Best regards Hamid

Actually, this should be unchecked.
There are a few other things to check, they may vary depending on the version of Premiere you are using.
There is usually a field type setting, and that should be set to progressive. Also look for a de-interlace check box in your output window in the top left(no longer there in CS4).
Regarding your choices in camcorders: DV by definition does not support true progressive. Most tape formats end up at 60i, except for some Canon camcorders that achieve it by duplicating fields, an converting to progressive afterwards.
I think the Canon HV 30 supports true 30P, but double check with them to make sure. The cheapest one I know to support it for sure is the HVX 170 / 200, but it’s not exactly cheap. I would post a new thread for recommendations on that topic.

May 21, 2009 at 8:10 pmOk..
Please advise on this picture… Why do I get this output after I have edited in AE CS4 and used dynamic link. My settings in both projects are the same, 720p frame. 29 fps etc.
This image is what I get when I open PPro.
Please help.. Have anyone see this before??

May 21, 2009 at 10:26 pmWhat’s happened here is the footage you used in After Effects has lost its connection. The name of the file it’s lost connection with is in the top left of the frame. Your image looks to be a Premiere Pro project file.
Dynamic Link, as awesome as it is, can’t actually link a Premiere Project into After Effects and then also be Dynamic Linked anywhere else (Back to Premiere Pro or Encore). It’s a one process function.Sadly, this means that by losing the connection you are un-able to simply reopen the After Effects Project and have everything found and open properly.
Here’s what you need to do:
1. Delete the Dynamic Link file from the Premiere Pro Project.
2. Save and Close Premiere Pro.
3. Reconnect the footage in the After Effects Project:
– In the Project Panel select the clip that is missing (has italic name) right click on it and select “replace footage> file…” (Ctrl+H PC, Cmd+H Mac).
4. Navigate to the file you originally had connected to.
5. You need to render a Premiere Pro Project timeline and import the export to Premiere Pro.The reason you need to delete the After Effects Dynamic link from Premiere Pro is that it will lose all the connections again with the attempt to Dynamic link a Dynamic link – and you’ll have the same problem.
If you are trying to work with Dynamic link on a specific shot (Keying) you can send just that shot to After Effects as a Dynamic link and the problem won’t occur. Select the shot/s you want to send to After Effects, right click them and select “Replace with After Effects Composition”.

May 21, 2009 at 11:19 pmThanks so much Vince and Jon.
Please take 2 min of your time to see the video file I created with camtasia. I show you my approch and get to the part where I get my error reading “Adobe After Effect Dynamic Link Server is busy. Dynamic link is only supported in one direction per session”
Link to video
56_help.swf.zipAfter this video. I think you can see what I am doing wrong.
I really hope vince/jon or someone will watch and advice. I will try your strageti jon.

DenmarkP.S Thanks Vince on the cam info. I tried to eksport my footage with the allow interlaced field unchecked and checked. Both of them came out with same result. Still interlace lines there. What to do here?? Still interlace…
P.P.S The video is in swf format, if anyone wishes to see it in another format please let me know.

May 22, 2009 at 9:07 amHamid did you send the clip to AE instead of opening the project in AE?
The interlacing issue is usually solved in AE when you add video into a project it automatically assess if it’s interlaced and deinterlaces it for you.
You can check by selecting the clip in AE project panel and right click, select the ‘Interpret Footage’>Main…
look at the ‘fields and pulldown’ settings
is ‘separate fields’ is set to Lower field or Upper Field then it’s deinterlaced the footage for you. Look at the footage at 100% and find a frame where there is some action to see if the interlacing is occuring. If the settings in ‘field pulldown’ are set to off, change it to Lower Field for DV footage. tick the preserve edges box.
