Dark images imported into After Effects look visibly distorted
Hi, I’m fairly new to after effects and I’m having trouble with a still frame I’m trying to import. The rest of my video is imported as an image sequence from C4D with no problem. This frame is much darker than the others and when I add it the colors get very distorted and pixelated. I tried editing the image in photoshop, making sure it was RGB color space etc, and also importing the image saved directly from C4D. Same effect on both. What am I doing wrong?
I’ve uploaded the original image and a screenshot of how it looks in AE. The second image might need to be viewed at full size to see the distortion.
Thank you in advance for any help. I apologize if this is an easy fix but I’ve looked all over with no luck.

Make sure you’re working in 16bits per channel at least.
In 8 bits, since you’re only using the darkest 10% of the histogram,
you effectively only have 4-5 bits (16 graylevels) left.The render from c4D has to be in a high enough bit-depth to begin with also.

Thank you for the reply. I’ve rendered out the still in 32bit RGB from Photoshop and set the prjoect settings in AE to 32bits but still no change. The image looks fine in every other viewer I’ve tried
edit: I checked linearize color space and that seems to be better. Was I somehow using a different RGB profile or something?
