cutting with ProRes 4444 on alaptop?
Here is the current configuration of my system (an HP Envy laptop):
• 7.46 GB available RAM
• AMD Dual-Core A6-4400M (3.2GHz/2.7GHz, 1MB L2 Cache)
• AMD Radeon™ HD 7600 Series Discrete-Class
• 8GB 1600MHz DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
• 750GB 7200 rpm Hard DriveI would really like to cut my project using the ProRes 4444 files provided to me from the scans of my original 16mm footage. My question: is this doable and/or advisable? Can I upgrade my system to make this possible? What external video card would you recommend? My project will probably not involve lots of layers of video or rendering of effects. Thanks for your advice!

Hi Rob,
In theory yes, as long as you don’t exceed the drive’s transfer rate which may happen around 2 or 3 layers.
RAM maybe your real issue, but that depends on your version of Premiere. We regularly go over 10 Gigs.
Finally, render times will probably fairly long since they mainly rely on CPUs and GPU.
