  • Cut out a given area in a pre-composition

    Hi everyone,

I have pre-composed an animation and dragged it into the main composition. However, I only need a part of the entire animation and want that part to be looped.

E.g. frames 45-70 in the pre-comp will be seen looped in the main comp. All other frames in the pre-comp are simply dropped.

Tried some time remapping but to no avail. Is there a quick expression that can handle such a task? Or am I missing something obvious?

The expression you can use on the keyframes is loopOut or loopIn (i can’t remember which, i think loopOut). The help menu will explain the syntax and how it works for you.

Use time remapping. Place keyframes at the points you want it to start and end. Delete the other two keyframes. Then you should move those keyframes to the beginning of the frame. You should then be able to apply a loop expression to the time-remapping effect.

Thanks! Exactly what I needed, it works really well.

The expressions raise another question though. If you wanted to use expressions only, would that be possible?

loopIn and loopOut let you specify the length through the numKeyframes value, but the base is either from the beginning (loopIn) or the end (loopOut) of the animation.

    loopOut(type=”cycle”, numKeyframes=0)
    loopIn(type=”cycle”, numKeyframes=0)

Is there an expression that lets you cut out something from the middle without having to manually adjust the keyframes?
