Is there a way to create custom shapes for masks to color grade footage in FCP X that you can motion track like you could do in Apple Color from FCP 3 Suite? Or, is this something I need to do in Motion 5? Since I reformatted my Macs with Lion and then installed FCP X, Motion 4, and Compressor 4 first, I am unable to install FCP 7 Suite…so I can’t use Apple’s Color program I liked a lot….what do I suppose to do???

You can still run fcs3 on Lion.

DaVinci Resolve is free as long as you’re 1080p or less. Gotta have one of a few BlackMagic devices to monitor externally though.

I figured that most FCPX updaters using a Mac Pro would have installed an extra drive and dabbled with the Lion install?
Makes for no headaches when running FCS and FCPX on same system.
sorry if that’s off topic but I read allot of posts like this and cant figure out why folks don’t just dual-boot.

As long as you move FCPX into a separate folder in your Applications folder (maybe called FCPX!) You will have no problem installing FCP7 on Lion. Never had any problems running it either.

As Color does not have a new version, you should have even less problem with it.

Despite the undoubtedly safer route of partitioning drives, I’ve had no issues running FCP7 and FCPX on a single drive partition.

“The Final Cut Studio 3 installer is a PPC application and requires Rosetta to install the software.”

This isn’t true? Fcs3 won’t even install on ppc without hacking it.
