So, let’s say I’ve got an adjustment layer loaded up with a few effects and I want save the special “blend” to be used later. Can I save a custom preset in FCPX, or do I need Motion 5 to accomplish this?

    Hey Jason

You might want to consider creating your own Effects and Presets “Project” and then storing those effects for later use in there. Not as convenient as having your custom effect build available in the Effects Browser (for that you’d need to build your effect directly in Motion 5 and then publish it to FCP X) but may be a workable solution.

    Cheers

Are all the effects inside of FCPX also available within Motion 5?

Yes and no … on the whole, the effects you see inside FCP X are “Motion Templates” and can be considered as just a subset of those effects and effect combinations available in Motion 5. It’s simple enough, you just right click an effect in your FCP X Effects Browser and choose “Open a copy in Motion” … the effect template then opens as a Motion project in Motion 5 which you can then adapt to your needs.

I may have to cough up the $50 for Motion 5…

    Hey Andy,
How would I create a new project and save presets in the project?
