current editing hourly rates
I’m trying to get updated with the reality of editing rates in our current economy. I’d appreciate your input and perspective on what is the “norm’ these days. What are you charging for independent post production editing? Are there still various rates you use for specific kinds of editing? How about when working with motion or AE?

There is no normal. It all depends on your location, and what you are editing.
The Los Angeles area Editor’s Guild rate card is $2687 a week. Boils down to a little over $500 a day…about $50 an hour. But that is L.A., and for broadcast editing…and isn’t what an editor in Iowa might get for a corporate video.

From what I’ve seen recently, here in Dallas, the going rate is about $50/hour, but I’ve seen anywhere from $25/hour to $75/hour, depending on the job and the experience level of the editor.
Those don’t include working with Motion or AE.
