CS6 Mac version vs. Windows version ….
Posted by Andrew Clark on August 20, 2012 at 6:10 pmHello –
Are there any major differences between the Mac and Windows version of CS6?
(If this has been posted elsewhere, please advise and accept my apologies for the redundant post!!)
Any advice, tips and/or suggestions will be much appreciated!!

August 20, 2012 at 8:19 pmMedia files are supported differently – due mainly to differences in the respective OSs: ProRes and QuickTime come first to mind; hardware support is somewhat different; other than that, I believe they are virtually identical.

The Mac version doesn’t have WMV support and you can’t export Prores from the Windows version. Thats about it.

August 21, 2012 at 11:22 amWmv might be important if you are wanting to edit a poewerpoint presentation. I recently had to add a video soundtrack to a ppt andtime it. Then add a network bug. Powerpoint on Windows only exports that to wmv. Not sure if the mac version of ppt does. Just so you know.

August 21, 2012 at 2:43 pmThere should be no major differences except for their respective codecs. If that is a problem, then you’ll need to choose which one you’re most likely to work with. Or install something like VirtualBox or alike and put the other OS on that way. However, I wouldn’t advise that for items like editing. Maybe Boot Camp with Windows XP though. A dual-boot could also be a good option, but careful.

Just a word of caution before anyone gets too excited about using Windows XP: no cigar with CS6 – Win7 64 only.
Oh, and I wouldn’t try to run Premiere Pro in any virtual machine just yet – even if it works, it’s not gonna be pretty performance-wise. Once nVidia gets their Kepler (virtualized GPU) thing going – then maybe, but it’ll take some time.

One thing I was thinking about was the .WMV output capability … or lack of on the Mac OS side.
Can’t that be done in the Mac OS via Telestream’s Episode software?
