cs6 2nd monitor fileds problem
I am running Premiere CS6, on a MacPro . as my primary monitor i have a Apple 30″, as my second monitor I’m using a DVI to HDMI adapter and running a 42″ plasma as my playback monitor.
I found the playback settings to get the video to the 2nd monitor. BUT its only displaying one field of my SD interlaced footage. in the primary window i have it set to display bold fileds and full resolution, but i cant find those setting for the video getting output to the 2nd monitor.
any suggestions?

If you want to display fields, and proper color, you’ll need to get something from BlackMagic, Matrox, AJA, etc. for monitoring. If you’re ok with SD, you could alternatively hook up a DV Camera or Deck and monitor through that.

i relise what i’m seeing is scaled up and no where near broadcast quality. But my 2nd screen is clearly line doubling one filed and my text is unreadable. Where as my preview window in Premiere looks fine, even at 200%.
I have done this same thing in CS5 with no problem, the 2nd screen ‘inherited’ its settings from the preview window in Premiere.
i was hopping that the 2nd monitor just got its OWN preferences somewhere and i could not find them.
this kinda feels like a bug.

Check out your display settings. The Nvidia control panel has settings for interlaced and progressive scan under the “change resolution”-tab. Dunno about ATI cards.

I hear this question all the time, and the simple answer is that computer monitors will not show you interlaced footage correctly. Hence the need for an external broadcast monitor.
A good example is the one you stated in the post while another would be your fields being reversed. Monitoring on a computer monitor is never going to show you any issues that might come up while working with an interlaced source.
