Hi. Since CS5 can edit the 7D files natively, is it a better idea to just edit the files right in CS5, or is it a better idea to convert the files with neoscene or something else, and THEN edit them in CS5. The fact that there is a preset for dslr is great, but I wasn’t sure if it’s safer and easier to convert first and then edit the files. thanks!

Premiere handles the footage natively so go ahead and edit.
Performence is however depended on the machine you are running on.
If its not a powerful machine then convert to Cineform.
I love Cineform btw, makes editing a lot easier.

If you are on a Mac, be forewarned, Cineform can be a nightmare. I have nothing but crashes when trying to use it with CS5 software on export. Spent lots of time with developers trying to address the issue. They eventually gave up. I have standardized to an alternative to Prores that many professional are using these days. DNxHD. Its Avids codec and its free to download.

My 7D footage worked great natively on:

    Laptop- Core2Duo 4gb ram
    Desktop- Q6600 4gb ram 9600gt
    macpro- 16core 12gb ram quardo4000

    …works even better in CS6!
