CS4 video captures fine, but only audio displays on playback
I’m at my wits end with Premiere Pro CS4. I can capture video just fine in the program using the old ADS Tech Pyro A/V Link that I had previously purchased with Premiere Elements 2.0 back in the day. It captures flawlessly with CS4. However, when it becomes part of the project, just the audio will play and I get a black (sometimes teal) screen in the program monitor and does the same when put in the timeline. I don’t get it, while capturing in CS4, I see both video and audio. Outside of the program the video will open fine with Quicktime, Windows Media Player, Adobe Bridge, etc. It will also open just fine in Elements 2.0 (I have recently uninstalled this thinking there might be a software conflict). Also, not sure if this is related or not, Premiere Pro CS4 will almost always go to “Not Responding” mode whenever I try to close out of a project in which this video was imported.
I’ve run GSPOT – It tells me the proper CODEC is installed. I’ve tried a couple codec packs K-lite..but no such luck.
Here’s what I have:
– Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 2.00 GHz
– Vista Home Premium SP2
– 4 GB RAMThe Video Info:
– .avi
– DV/DVCPRO – NTSC
– 640 x 480 Millions 16 Bit IntegerI appreciate the help in advance.

Premiere can be a bit fussy when it comes to avi and audio. Sequence settings should match footage.
What are you capturing, analog footage? The resolution is a bit odd, it should be 720×480.

Are you capturing to a custom format? I use a Pyro A/V link for analog captures, like Ann says it should be 720×480, you should use a NTSC DV preset to capture from the pyro -
The previous video info I provided came from Movie Information in Quicktime…everything else I run it in comes out normal. Yes, I am attempted analog capture (from Hi8).

I believe I am using the DV preset from the Pyro…is there anyway to tell either from the unit or from Premiere Pro CS4?

Figured it out….it was the graphics driver on my computer. Windows update did not find the most recent driver – I had to go to intel’s site to get the most current driver. Installed it and it works great! Dumb windows update….grrr.
