I’m brand new to AE. Just installed it this weekend and love it. I’m running it on the following:

    Mac OS 10.5.6
    2 x 2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon
    2GB 667 MHz memory

    My AE Prefs say:

    Installed CPUs: 4
    Installed RAM: 2 GB
Total AE memory usage: 1.2 GB
RAM to leave for other apps: .25 GB

So the question is if I should change any settings to get faster render speeds. Should I use the Multiprocessing settings or for my 2GB of RAM, will that not make any diff? If it would, any suggestions on what I should set things to?

    Thanks in advance.

you may be able to enable multiprocessing and get something out of it if you are working strictly in sd… if that is the case, you could try setting the min ram allocation per cpu to .5, but the cpus would be rather starved for ram which can actually hurt performance. but you can try a few tests to see what the benefit is.

the best option would be to get more ram. 2gb per core is highly recommended and ae can use up to 3.5gb per core on a mac. ram is pretty cheap, check otherworldcomputing.com, they have good ram at good prices.

Thanks Kevin. I’ll give it a try. If I start feeling that I’m just getting bogged down, I’ll look into more memory. I’m not there right now as I’m just dabbling in AE.
