CS3 startup crash
Hi,
i’m having this problem with CS3 everytime i try to lauch AE by opening a saved project or clicking on its icon in windows.It shows the splash screen and then crashes with the usual hateful windows error sound.
Splash disappears when it shows “initializing base module for multimedia objects” (or something like).
I already tried to install AE again (two times). I neither added new fonts nor plugins before this problem and i didn’t install new video/audio codecs.
The only things i installed is an Adobe ICC profile for an epson printer (wich is included with the printer software).
All other CS3 softwares work well. I run windows XP pro with service pack 3.Has anyone ever had same problem or knows how to solve it?
Does anyone know if exists a registry where i can see what the problem is or has suggestions?Thanks for your help.

Finally i solved this problem. It was caused by a video codec.
This is the procedure in case someone need:
– in the windows registry (start > run > regedit) find the following key “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows NT/CurrentVersion/Drivers32”.
– find all the video codecs installed, they begin with “vidc.”, and disable all the entries but one by adding a semi-colon to beginning of the value (double click the name of the codec to modify its value like this “;codecname.dll”).
You need at least one codec enabled to let AE run, so leave enabled one codec you know it surely works, eg Cinepack – vidc.cvid.– try to launch AE, if it runs, you’ve found the problem
– now you can re-enable one codec per time until you find the one corrupted that blocks AE
– when you find the corrupted codec you can leave it disabled (with semi-colon at the beginning of the value) or uninstall it
Same procedure works with Premiere CS3 too.
