We have a show that is shot on HDV and we capture that as 1080i29.97 ProRes 422. We just received some DVCPRO HD footage at 720p60, and we’d like to capture that as 1080i 29.97…to match the rest of the footage. Now, I have cross converted on output, but not on input so I am a tad lost.

The Frame Buffer is 1080i29.97…the incoming video is SDI 720p60…and is RED. And the ONLY options I see for SECONDARY VIDEO are 1080i and 525i…no 720p. When I change the primary to 720p, then I see everything, but at 1080i…only 1080i and 720p.

Can I not do this on capture? I thought I was able to do this.

I maybe doing this the hard way but I believe the only thing you can capture is the way the sdi signal is. So I use a IoHD between the deck send out the 720p60 and do the cross conversion to 1080i29.97 into my kona system. It has been awhile since it did this but I do system to system conversions every now and again and the conversion is done by the sending system.

If you want to capture 720p as 1080i, put the primary as 720, secondary as 1080i. You should be able to select a 1080i easy setup within FCP as well.

[Michael Sacci] “I believe the only thing you can capture is the way the sdi signal”

Yup, that is the only way the deck is connected.

[Jeremy Garchow] “If you want to capture 720p as 1080i, put the primary as 720, secondary as 1080i.”

That’s the problem. When I choose 720p as the primary, the only choices I have for secondary are 720p or 525i. If I choose 1080i, the only choices are 1080i and 525i. Everything else is greyed out.

We captured the one tape as DVCPRO HD 720p, and used Compressor to cross convert….as we needed this done yesterday. Damn odd though. Calling AJA if the latest drivers we are in the middle of installing don’t solve the issue.

Sorry, Primary should be 1080i, secondary should be 720p.

    Yup…should be, but isn’t. Gonna install drivers…

OH! D’oh! Crap. Stupid stupid stupid! I am STOOOOPID! We were capturing on the systems with the Kona LHe. Can’t cross convert. GAH! Moron!

I’m gonna go hang my head in shame now…

I was going to ask you about that, but I figured you would know! :0)

All good, my man. Just yesterday I was looking for the keys to the house when they were in my hand.

If your capturing from a 1200 or 1400 set the 720P out to 1080i on the deck in the video settings
    and capture away
