I am creating a montage of video 1920×1080 video with photos mixed in as kind of a slideshow effect. The images are not of the same aspect ratio as the video so black bars are visible on both ends. I wish to crop the image so that the bars are gone but when I use the crop tool and zoom in it zooms in on the photo while leaving the bars intact.

    ideas?

edit: so I unchecked maintain aspect ratio so now I am able to zoom in the black bars slowly disappear but if I zoom in too much I see a narrow black bar on top and on the bottom, I basically have to zoom in just right so that the horizontal bars are gone but no vertical black bars are visible, it’s touchy going back and forth, certainly there must be a better way

    No need to uncheck anything.
While in pan/crop, right click and choose “match output aspect”. Depending on the pixel sidecof the original image, the picture will zoom in a bit but the black bars will be gone.
    Hope this helps.
