    Hey guys,

I’m planning to upgrade my network and storage system, any obvious problems you see here?

    Server:
-Xserve (already own) with new Small Tree 6-port GigE and ATTO R380

    Storage:
    -AIC 12-bay SAS enclosure (new)
    https://www.provantage.com/xtore-extreme-storage-xj-sa13-212rel-0~7XTOR00N.htm
Anyone know a better source for the AIC boxes? They say it will take about 3 weeks to ship. Or anyone recommend a better enclosure?
-Load with 12 x 2 TB Hitachi SATA drives, configure as RAID 6
-I’m hoping to daisy chain new storage boxes if needed, the ATTO should be able to handle this right?

    Network:
    -Edge-Core ES4528V 28-port switch (new)
    https://www.edge-core.com/ProdDtl.asp?sno=ILEIBO
-Aggregate the six links from Xserve
-Aggregate ports for three or four Mac Pro edits (already have these)
    -Connect through AFP

I don’t need uncompressed HD, we work more with XDCAM EX and ProRes. The edits will also have local storage of course, but I’d like 2-3 editors to work together on the shared storage if necessary.

Seems pretty solid for around $5000 (excluding the expensive stuff we already have). Let me know what you think!

    Thanks bob!

I’ve been setting this system up over the last couple days and haven’t hit any major problems. Lucky! I couldn’t get the Edge-Core web interface to work on the switch, but at least it works through Zterm.

The RAID6 is getting over 800 MB/s reads and 500 MB/s writes, not too shabby.

Not all the edits are set up yet, but in a quick test I saw over 160 MB/s through a MacPro link aggregate, awesome!

Thanks everyone for the hardware recs I got through lurking here!

Just a quick revision: I did NOT get 160 MB/s through the Mac Pro, the most I’ve seen so far is around 112 MB/s on that computer.
