    Hey guys

    TOTALLY off after effects topic

So I need a new port-a-drive, and I can’t find out what can stream DV.
Can usb 2.0 stream DV? I need it for on the fly editing, I have a LACIE RUGGED FW800 now which is super dooper fast, and I was wondering if anyone has experience with using
USB 2.0 for streaming DV in FCP to AE via Duck.

I figured I’d post here because most of the work off the drive would be done in After Effects.
The 800 drive works great, I just don’t want to drop the cash again. Writeoff-shmiteoff!

I don’t have any specific experience with Final Cut & AE but I have been running full Avid Projects of a 7200rpm 250GB USB2 drive for a while now with no problems. Make sure it’s at least 7200rpm and you should be good. It will at least do 1 stream of DV (I’ve got it up to 3 but processor power breaks down before drive speed becomes a problem)

the problem with USB is that it transfers data in packets as opposed to a stream. That means there are bursts of data as opposed to a steady amount of info coming through. My personal experience tells me that Fire wire is the way to go here, but if anyone has had good experiences with DV and USB, please chime in.
