Creative Cow Coverage of HD Camera Technology at NAB

Ron and Kathlyn have asked me to provide reports to Creative Cow on new HD camera technology introduced at NAB. As you know, cameras and HD workflows are undergoing revolutionary developments. I hope to provide you with as much useful information as possible so you can stay on top of these changes.There will be two flights of reports. The first one will be on Monday. It will be press release oriented. I will try to get you as much information as possible, but not at the expense of delaying the coverage. The second report will be on Wednesday. It will be a follow up to the first. I am in awe of the knowledgeable people who post here, and I welcome your input. I’d be grateful for any specific questions you care to post early on Tuesday. To the extent possible, I will pose your questions to the senior people at the camera companies.
I will file the reports in the appropriate forum (HDV, HD high end, P2, CineAlta, JVC or Canon). I won’t be cross posting, nor will I file a report if there is nothing new. If you have a general interest in all brands/levels of HD, you may want to check all the camera forums during NAB.

I believe the breaking story will be in the Panasonic booth and I’ll be there to chat about it. 🙂

Noah, I’m definitely looking forward to reading your official report! Thanks for uploading those early booth pictures. I think I counted like 7 + big plasma screens in one of those pictures. It looks like Panasonic is planning for a big response.

I don’t have a question, but a wish for Panasonic hvx-200 design team:
Please don’t make separate models for 60Hz and 50Hz countries!Announced “ntsc” model already has “varicam style” framerates @720p,
so there could be 25p & 50p dialed in.EBU is strongly leaning to recommend progressive only with HD transmissions,
so 50i might get obsolete very soon.So, the only difference with models would be at 1080p24/30 and 1080p25.
Putting all these 3 speeds to one model would enhance user capabilies
to “crank” the camera greatly!
And people in Europe could make movies in 24fps as an addition to tv programs in 25fps.
