Creating Titles in AE To be used in FCP
Hello,
First of all can I say that I am almost a novice in respects to Final Cut Pro, and have a small knowledge of After Effects..
I need help in creating some titles in After Effects and then transferring them across to Final Cut Pro..
There are some requirements that need to be met, First the titles need to be on an Alpha Channel. I seem to be having a little trouble understanding how to create an alpha channel is After Effects. Second the After Effects file needs to be uncompressed (as they are to be placed in an uncompressed time line (is there any way of decreasing the file size with some kind of No Loss Compressor???)

When you render your final AE movie, use the render setting preset “Lossless with Alpha” which uses the Animation compressor (an “uncompressed” format). Also make shure the “millions of colors+” is selected. The “+” indicates that you want an alpha channel.
FYI-The DV codec cannot support alpha channels.

In AE when you set up the render make sure you don’t have a solid at the bottom of your Comp. In the render queue make sure your Output Module Settings>Format Options…>Compression Settings>Compression Type>Animation with Compressor Depth: set to Millions of Colors +.
Since you only know After Effects a little why don’t you make the titles in Motion which should have come with your Final Cut Pro Suite. All you have to do with FCP in import the .motn project file into FCP and your titles created in Motion will be rendered in FCP. Motion make more sense unless you are really taking advantage of the 3D space, cameras and lighting capability of AE.

After you set your alpha channel make sure you set it to straight, not premultiplied, which is the default.
