Creating Subtitles in Vegas 5/DVD Architect 2
I am attempting to create subtitles for a DVD project. I know that it is done by setting regions and naming them with the text that should be the subtitle. At NAB last week, a Sony person showed me a window that listed all of the regions in one list and allowed me to modify the text that is associated with them. For the life of me, I can’t seem to find how to access that window. Is that a feature that is new to Vegas 6 (I’ve got Vegas 5) or did I simply not pay attention?

View> Edit Details> Show> Regions.

Thanks. That’s just what I was looking for. As I said, I’m getting ready to add subtitles to a project. I have all of the subtitle text in a word document. I’m very new at using Vegas, so I guess I should ask if this is the best workflow for doing this. Basically I’m going to create regions for each subtitle and then copy and paste the text into the region names one at a time. Is there a better way to do this? Can it be automated once I create the regions? Thanks for any insight.

In DVD Architect, you can import subtitles directly from a text file.

In Vegas v5
Tools => Scripting => Export Regions as Subtitles
Then import the subtitles in DVD-A, as Gary suggests.

I just finished subtitling a 23 minute video. I did it using DVA 2.0. I found it convenient.
If you are importing text, I think it would be easier in DVA 2.0. When you import text, you only import the text. If you do it in DVA, you can set position, format the font, etc.
BE SURE you have the latest upgrade to DV Architect (2.0b). I had some invalid subtitles which I would never have found using version 2.0.

I have tried this in the past, but found that when you import the subtitles, you still have to position them on the timeline. I hope I’m missing something. Is there a way to set markers so that when importing subtitles to DVDA, they go to their correct positions in the timeline?
