I want to create a comp with twinkling stars for a matt show I am using..
I was thinking about using a photograph from the internet to animate, layer, adjust etc… but I’m not sure if I will get into copyright issues with competition I am entering this piece into.

Any ideas on how to start to create a beautiful dynamic starry sky in AE??

thanks guys. u all are geniuses thank you for showing me how it all works!!

here’s a fairly simple recipe… create a new solid and add these effects to it:

    1. fractal noise
    2. colorama
    3. cc star burst

that should get you a bunch of multi-colored spheres/dots.

then in cc star burst set the speed to 0 (so you’re not flying trough them) and adjust the scatter, grid spacing and size properties until you get the scale and amount of stars that you want.

you can scale back the amount of colorizing in the colorama effect by adjusting the blend with original.

i’d also adjust the brightness and contrast in the fractal noise effect (this will actually increase the number of colors or shift the colors that colorama creates).

then to animate some twinkling, animate the evolution property in fractal noise. you’ll probably want quite a bit, i’d start around 1 evolution (360 degrees) per second and adjust from there. if you need it to loop, there is a loop option in the evolution options.

This thread is super old, but I needed to find a 5-min solution and your approach helped a lot.

    Thanks!
