I’ve got a vector image I’d like to turn into a shape layer in After effects.

When I copy and paste the paths from Illustrator to the shape layer path, it only makes masks.

Am I missing something? What’s the correct way to copy/paste your illustrator paths into Shape layers AS paths not Masks.

If you can’t tell a tale tall then it’s not a tale at all.

It’s pretty straight forward although you’ll want to search YouTube for add’l info for prep work that’ll save you a lot of time later with complex .AI files.

Import the .AI file into AE first. Add the file to your comp. Select the layer and RIGHT CLICK. About 1/4 of the way up from the bottom of the menu that pops up, you’ll see Create Shapes from Vector layer.

    That’s it.
