I know there is a way to create rose pedals in AE using particle effect. My thoughts are to create the pedal in PS then import into AE. Does anyone know of a site that offers free brushes like a rose pedal that i could use? And is there a tutorial on how to create the rose pedal falling in AE?

I’d like to try the falling effects and blowing across floor with drop shadow to give a more realistic look..

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

Try searching the COW under “petals” or “leaves”.

For realism, though, you can’t beat a 3D app, because then the petal would rotate in 3 dimensions naturally.

Steve Roberts has given you some good suggestions and I will add one — less for your situation and more for the record for those searching the forum later — of a technique my son created which was quite cool visually and had a very stylized look to it.

He created a layer with a full-sized red solid on it and then duplicated the layer for the number of petals he wanted.

He then used the masking tools (with some of the mask points being bezier and others being sharp points), to simulate an organic “petal” look.

He then used the “Emboss Alpha” filter and added a lot of light to the edges to make it looked more rounded.

He then animated the layers to simulate falling petals in his animation.

In the end, it was quite pretty and looked a lot like a Japanese image style.

    Best regards,

Oh, by the way, I have that PS file of the petal roses that took me about 30-40 minutes to do (with a transparency bg) that you need. Send me your e-mail, I’ll be glad to send it to you 😉
