  • Creating graphics for a 2K film shot with the RED.

Posted by Jesus Silva on December 4, 2008 at 6:54 am

    Dear Cows,
The film project we are working on was shoot with the RED camera 2k size.

The challenge is that we need to create the graphics, considering is a low budget film and we have modest equipment, Macpros.

We will be using photoshop, aftereffects, and motion.

The question is what will be the right method?
Create the graphics on a 1080P size? (lower file size)
What will be the right aspect-ratio?

    Best,
    JS

It would depend on what format you shot the red with. The red 2k options are below. Figure out which you shot with and create a comp that size.

The red one uses square pixels

    2K 16:9 (2048×1152), 2K 2:1 (2048×1024) 1 – 120 frame/s (variable)

    Thanks Andrew!
We are currently making a fantasy short film- planning to shoot on RED ONE… so, for the graphics, if we make 16:9 (2048×1152), 29.97 fps, will that be fine? Or should it be 24fps?

Your graphics should be the the same framerate as your footage – if you shot 24p great, 24p should be the framerate of your graphics. Likewise… 29.97p, make your motion graphics that rate too.
