    Hello everyone.

I am new to these forums, and Final Cut Pro in general. I have someone who needs me to make some graphic slides for them using either Photoshop, Powerpoint or Illustrator (whatever you users think is best for this job)… When I create the graphics at 1280×780 for their time line (the codec they are using is 720p60 – DVCPRO HD.. Hope I have that right…) They say the graphics come out correct BUT are a little dull color and are slightly blurry… Is there something I can do or a program I can use to eliminate this problem for the person who needs these graphics? If this has already been talked about I am really sorry please help me out by linking something I can read up on 🙂 Thank you for your help everyone!

Well, you should be making them 1280×720 if you want to mix it with DVCPRO HD 720p (this is a square pixel format). Now, what codec did YOU use for this? Or are you talking about photoshop files? JPEG? TIFF? PNG?

    Hi, Erin

Not my area of expertise, but I’m sure the experts would like to know which program you used to make the graphics that were blurry. (And I’m guessing the experts will recommend Photoshop, but I could be wrong.)

Hello Shane, Thanks for your response… I made the previous graphics in Powerpoint and saved them off as PNG’s … and they were 1280×720… Very nice looking, but he says when he brought them into FCP, it was a tiny bit blurry (very slightly, but a little bit)…. The original graphics were NOT blurry (the ones from powerpoint)… The codex he used was: 720p60 – DVCPRO HD (is this not the right number I am looking for?) thanks in advance

The ones from Powerpoint are full quality. The ones in the project have been compressed to DVCPRO HD. This happens all the time. Even if someone were to bring in a 4000×4000 image at 600DPI…it would look sharp as hell in the Viewer, as that shows you what you have. As soon as you drop it into the timeline, it takes on the compression characteristics of the codec. Thus it softens a bit.

Also likely that you are not monitoring properly. You need to preview all rendered graphics on a broadcast monitor or else you will never see the proper quality. The Canvas fools almost all that are new to FCP when it comes to graphics.

Note: If you don’t have a broadcast monitor (they can be expensive), you can get a rough preview by setting your Canvas at 100%–however, you cannot rely on it for interlacing and color issues.

This is a very common issue/misunderstanding.
