Creating Database Issue
Posted by Paul Jay on September 27, 2010 at 3:00 pmWe have DaVinci installed on a MacPro with GTX285 but it can’t create a database.
When installed on a MacBook Pro, it had no problems creating a database and it’s up and running.
The MacPro is connected to an Xsan. Could this be related?Any ideas?

September 27, 2010 at 3:16 pmIs there a reason you need to create a database ? You should just use the default database which is a local database on the Mac Pro.

September 27, 2010 at 3:32 pmWhen i don’t create a database, and hit cancel. Choose new project. DaVinci instantly quits.

September 27, 2010 at 3:35 pmwe tried manual and dhcp IP.
It doesn’t create a local database. It’s keeps saying there’s an error. There are running 2 IP adresses on this machine because of Xsan.

September 27, 2010 at 4:05 pmWe’ve seen this problem on a few installations where the database does not install properly when you install resolve. Perhaps you are running into the same issue.
To solve this problem, please use the following steps:
1. Open a Terminal
2. sudo mv /Library/PostgreSQL /Library/PostgreSQL_old (enter password when prompted)
3. Re-install Resolve -

September 28, 2010 at 11:24 amHey, colleague of Paul Jay here… moving away the /Library/PostgreSQL folder helpt, just to make sure others reading this without black belt in Terminal: you need to either run this command as root, so “sudo mv …” or, just rename the folder in the Finder. Then reinstall Resolve, and it worked.
Mac we’re running this on has dual ethernet connections (for Xsan setup), don’t know if that’s source of the issue, but just noticing it. -

September 29, 2010 at 4:02 amFrom the result, it is obvious, that it’s the folder permission issue. So, why not just fix that, rather, than rename, reinstall etc?

September 29, 2010 at 8:35 amI’m not sure about that. I’ve still got the renamed ‘PostgreSQL-Old’ folder around, and when I compare permissions on it to the newly created one by the fresh install, I’m unable to find any differences in permissions. Both belong to root, including the contents in the PostgreSQL/8.4/ folder. Within that folder only the /data subfolder belongs to the ‘postgre’ user account.
