  • Creating custom time code for output

Posted by Renee Bergan on September 22, 2009 at 1:18 am

    Hi,

I could have sworn i’ve done this before but i guess it’s been a while. Is there a way to custom set the time code when outputting using “Edit to Tape”. Or is it dependent on your deck? I want to set it to 59:00;00 so my show will start right on hour one after bars/tone, slate etc. I can only find how to change the timecode on my timeline (which is currently 1:00:00;00).

    My systems:
My deck is a Sony DHR-1000
(looked through manual, can’t see where i can custom set time code)

Mac Dual 2 Ghz PowerPC G5
    4GB Ram
    FCP 6.0.5

    thanks……….

User Preferences/Timeline Options. Enter your Starting Timecode.

that only allows one to change the time code for the timeline…i know about this one..i’m talking about outputting so when you lay down your bars and code, slate etc…it will start at 59 min…so your show can start at one hour.

Believe it or not, when you edit to tape, you are assembling or inserting your timeline to tape. Therefore, when you set your timecode to start at 59min, it will.

Use the black and code function in FCP’s edit to tape window to black the beginning of the tape at your predetermined time code. Then do an assemble edit from your timeline.

I am not familiar with that deck…so it may not support this.

that’s what i did….or tried to do…but how do you set a custom time code for the black and code function? I tried in the various windows of the edit to tape window (upper left and bottom left)….still started on the tape from 00. i’ll try again….

Should be called TC preset on the deck.
isn’t that one of the earliest DV decks sony made? I don’t think that one can do an assemble edit. think it’s the forerunner to the DSR30 machine. good transport not a great editing device

SONY desks only lets you set the TC when working in DVCam mode, no in MiniDV.
At least that happens with the DSR-11.

You cannot output timeline timecode via firewire to DV. Not for a long time. The DSR-11 allowed it with a hack, but that hack is long gone. You need separate deck control from video signal. So if you had a capture card and could output via Component to deck, with firewire control, it would work. But you can’t do video and timeline timecode “assemble or insert” editing via firewire.
