  • Creating custom particles particular – ash/skin flecks style

    Hey all.

Im looking to create a custom particle, kind of like ash flakes or skin flakes.

imagine you put a scarab beetles shell in a blender, all those tiny flecks of multi coloured reflective flecks.

does anyone have any pointers or tips on how to make this.

i know how to add a custom particle to the emiiter

set it to ‘sprite’ i believe (just in case im wrong)

so yeah. really just looking for how to create a great looking particle

it could also maybe glow a bit, or be ‘shiny’ rather then actually glow….

    Anyway. thanks for any assistance

You can create a great looking 3d displaced particle using FreeForm. For a shiny particle you could use FreeForm Pro, which allows for reflection mapping and it’s way faster. Of course the particle will be still a 2d image finally for Particular to use, but it will give you the illusion of 3d since inside the particle image layer you will have a true 3d system creating that particle.
With FreeForm Pro you may be able to create the animated displaced flecks using Generator – worth testing that in my opinion.
