    Hi,

I’m making a thatch in cinema 4d, using static hair. This renders quite quickly, in a minute or two with global illumination. However for the project, I am duplicating this many times (around 40 times) and this is causing the render time to increase vastly to many hours.

I’m using instances, with the render instance box unchecked (or the hair doesn’t render at all), but this is causing the problems. Is there a way to get around this? So that C4d doesn’t have to calculate and prepare the hair for every single (identical) instance.

    Thanks,

    James

Hmm, I’ve given up on this approach, and am using standard textures to render the thatch, with bump for the straw elements, and displacement for the wobbliness of it. It’s considerably faster to render.
