  • Creating and saving a compound clip as a clip to use later?

    Hi all,

New to FCP X (from FCP 7) and still learning the whole compound clips / keywords / whatever.

Here’s what I’m trying to do:

I’ve got a long testimonial clip with bad audio. Luckily, the audio crew provided me with a separate good .WAV audio clip. Only problem is that while the video is super long (no cuts between takes), the audio team did create separate audio takes.

So I want to select individual video takes, sync up the appropriate audio .WAV file, then create a compound clip linking these two and save it in some kind of ‘favorites’ event folder (or something like that).

Then I want to be able to skim these clips, select certain good take regions, and edit those into my new storyline.

I tried creating a compound clip and assigning a keyword, but the original audio is linked to the keyword selection, not the good audio I tried to create a compound clip with!!

Any easy workaround without me having to export entirely new .mov clips??

    Thanks!

    Gene.

Stupidly you can’t save compound clips from the project back into the event, however you can achieve what you want quite easily.

In the event viewer select the in and out of your first video clip, then right click or use option G to make a new compound clip, name it then double click on it and add your new audio in the project window. You can also hit F to favourite the clip
