Creating an online database of hard drives – Ideas?
I’ll be working with a client of mine to create an online database for a library of HDs – preferably one that is accessible by anyone to view. This database needs to be scalable. Keep in mind it will only be a list of each HD and it’s contents – no actual files or footage. Also looking to be able to find content based on search terms (acquisition date, name of folder or file, etc). Ideas?

We recommend NeoFinder (it will also maintain BRU PE Catalog info). You can get a copy from https://www.cdfinder.de.

I’ve been using Diskcatalogmaker which is part of Toast titanium.
But I’m curious about Neofinder. How does it integrate with BRU-PE?

NeoFinder simply imports the BRU PE catalogs and lets you browse them like any other drive’s contents.

This I did not know… I use NeoFinder every day, and have recently been researching LTO archiving options. Score 10 points for TOLIS!

I’ve heard good things abput NeoFinder. But is there a way to make the databases searchable online? Like a webpage or library.

I can’t speak for NeoFinder, but BRU PE’s catalogs are gzip compressed plain text, so it shouldn’t be difficult for a reasonably talented web team to create a Ruby or PHP script that would provide a searchable resource.
In fact, this is what’s so funny when people complain about BRU and open source. With the exception of the actual BRU archival container format, all of our data handling is fully documented and “open source” and designed specifically to allow others to interact with the catalogs and libraries of content data.
