Creating an EDL of changes from two sequences
Hi there –
I have a feature that was cut a year ago on a Media Composer, had the EDL’s of the final 6 reels sent away to be film-scanned, conformed and graded in a DI and then outputted onto various HD/SD formats for deliverables.
The film was re-edited some months later using the same offline media on the Avid, and now I have essentially a new cut of the film. The new 6 reels have been approved, and need to be scanned and conformed and all the new/longer shots graded in the DI.
My problem is that I need to somehow create an EDL of ONLY the new media, and the longer shots, so we can send only those away to be scanned for the DI. There is no money for the whole new cut to be scanned and outputted, and since most of the media is very similar to the original it seems pointless to re-do the whole of the online, including the grade, for the sake of just these changes.
I am just looking for some advice on the best course of action here – I have looked at the Avid change list feature, but I’m not exactly sure that its the best way forward or that its what I am even looking for. I have considered doing a paper list, but that just seems like such a long way round, bearing in mind that this film is some 2 hours long with thousands of edits!
Any advice would be helpful!

Was this a 24 frame project? FilmScibe as a dedicated change list tool that shows what to remove, what to add, and what has changed. Have you tried that?
