can I create an alpha channel in fcp 6?

I’m rendering out an image in maya. I can’t have an alpha because I using a transmat shader. But I’d like to have an alpha for this image sequence. I have a black and white version and a color version of the image. Multiple comp mode works ok but I’d like to use a cleaner matte by creating an alpha channel from a black and white image. I’ve done something like this in AE and PS before but I was wondering if it can be done directly in fcp.

    thanks

Apply the Image Mask filter to your clip and drag the alpha channel clip to the mask imagewell in the filter controls.
