  • Creating a Widescreen effect – Any aspect ratio requests?

Posted by Alex Gollner on July 12, 2011 at 5:48 pm

In the next couple of days I’ll upload an improved Widescreen effect.

I’m including a much expanded set of aspect ratio options via a pop-up menu:

Any requests for any missing aspect ratios?

Whew! Looks like an exhaustive list.

Will the widescreen effect include the ability (using Motion controls) to track something for example on the original 1:1.778 (HD) source media to keep an object in the expanded frame? If that’s not clear, imagine a ball thrown in the air from the ground level from the left to right of a normal screen, a parabolic arc that would all be within the original frame. When you convert to a 1:2.35 widescreen, would we have a way to track that ball in flight so it remains in frame flying through the air?

    Rick,

It’ll be implemented as a Title Generator – if it above everything else in the timeline, it will matte everything to the aspect ratio you choose. That means you can move clips and content, add effects and colour grades to your timeline without the matte getting in the way.

    David,

This effect will apply to display resolution -whatever the pixel aspect ratio is. That means 4:3 for NTSC.

    Alex

Yep. Have that already. Thank you.

Geez. I’m thinking about how long it took to get a widescreen RT filter in FCP 7. Obe week and you are creating obe if the most versatile tools available.

    Thanks again.

    David.

Very clever to make this a title!
I just tried to apply a 2.35 Letterbox with the build-in Letterbox effect when I realized that I had to change the aspect ratio for each clip… Having changed all of them I found out that I couldn’t make adjustments to the framing.
    So thank you very much.

    Sören.
