    howdy,

currently working on a project that requires 3D ‘looking’ rock teeth that reveal themselves at an entrance to a cave!

just wanted to pick anyones mind as to how i could achieve this in after effects (of course a 3D app would be more suitable for this, but trying to look at a workflow that doesn’t burden our 3D guys, and is quick and looks awesome obviously!)

looking at creating teeth which appear to have volume, texture, shadows etc

not sure if pro-animator or invigorator might be a solution…but open to suggestion! or maybe canoa!

    anywho…look forward to your reply!

    thanking you in advance

    kind regards
    Nate

maybe a nice texture with cc sphere and some kind of distorsion….

and dan ebbert came up with a nice expression for that. check andrew kramer’s blue planet.

Could you use photographs of rocks and make the teeth out of them in Photoshop? Then just use AE to reveal them. You would want to put some particles for dust and other stuff coming off of them too.

heya guys…thanks will look into cc sphere suggestion Ben…and thank you for your suggestion Michael, the client wants a ‘more 3D’ looking rock…rather than a 2.5D solution(building 2d elements into 3d space) as the rocks will likely twist slightly when they stick out…do you guys have any experience with the 3d zaxwerks apps or canoa?
