Creating 3D ring and sphere effects as seen on some news intro’s
Hi.
After many months of tutorials there is still something that I don’t have the foggiest about and I hope someone may be able to help me or point me in the right direction.
Im wanting to create A kind of 3D moving ring that one can orbit with the camera through using either text or many video clips attached to make the ring. This link to the into to the bbc news intro may help… this kind of thing with the text in a bent kind of orbit etc….
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTVcerLmGnY&feature=relatedI have done the “ring of cows” tutorial and it was kinda helpful but obviously not if its text I want to make into a ring or it doesn’t help in every situation… I thought maybe CC Sphere may do the trick but that don’t create A true ring that can be orbited about with the camera.
But really, I want to create a news like intro ( a friend has done this in after effects… he left the country before he told me how) Can anybody point me in the right direction or maybe know of a helpful tutorial?
I would really appreciate help on this as I have tried and failed so much on this one, I feel Im missing a basic concept or something.

You might try to look for the preset 3D Rotate around Circle.
I´m on CS3 by the way.
I´ve done this before. It works. I hope it is what you need.

Also, if it’s just text you want ot put around the ring, there is a text animation preset that will do that.. Good luck.

The ring of cows is a 3d placement of objects that appear in temporal space. Not the same thing at all.
Most of these effects are created i 3D modelers. Precomping 2d objects into 3d comps and then stacking those in master 3d comps is not particularly difficult but AE just is not geared toward this kind of animation. Not at the beginning of your 3d work anyway.
If you really need to understand AE’s 3d way of dealing with 2d objects, invest in any of the Meyer’s books.
The first red pond ripple rings can be created using WaveWorld and Colorama.
Those circular light trails look like simple stationary objects that might be applied to a CC Sphere or CC Cylinder. they don’t really look like 3D objects to me. which makes things very simple.
The curved text can’t be done in AE because AE will not bend something that way. You can wrap it around a CC Sphere but CC filters are not real 3D objects although they can be stacked inside each other and, using selective rendering of the front or inside, you can do some lovely simulations of 3D.bogiesan
