  • Create video in Sony Vegas and render out in adobe premiere?

Posted by Kass Baldwin on September 22, 2012 at 12:37 am

Some of you may of seen my last post about Sony vegas pro 11 not rendering for me. (Ive tried everything so lets not go there lol)

My friend has let me use his version of adobe premiere. I was wondering if i can make my video in sony vegas, then transfer the file to adobe premiere and render it out there? as premiere seems to work perfectly, but ive not really got the time to learn another programme to the standard id be happy with. so, would that work? if so, how?

try and give me some good news haha.

Try saving your project as an EDL text file or aaf file (only work with 32bits version), then open this file to premiere.
If this works, all your customed fx and transition will be removed.

Yea, it’s kind of important to point out that this really “doesn’t” work except for extremely simply projects that have only one video and one audio track and cuts and crossfades only (if you can get it to work at all).

Sony Vegas Pro 12.0 is said to have the ability to export projects to Premiere but it’s anyone’s guess as to how good it is. You can read about it on the Vegas Pro 12 Coming Soon page.

Here’s the basic problem: If you add something as simply as a Title to Vegas Pro and expect that “Generated Media” to work in Premiere or After Effects I can’t see how it can. Also add any of the Sony FX and you’ll have the same problem. For example, how is all of your color correcting with Sony Color Corrector, Sony Color Curves, and Sony Levels going to get transferred? Unless they have implemented some mapping of native plug-ins and their parameters, I just don’t see it working very well and this has nothing to do with Sony’s implementation… it’s just a hard problem to solve. I’m guessing that only the most basic edits are going to come through because the two programs don’t share any plug-ins except 3rd part plug-ins like Boris FX, etc.

Yeah, i dont see where anything other than basic edits/cuts
is gonna get transferred over. Other than that, takes lots of
work and coding etc, and i dont think Vegas is gonna go through
    all of that.
Can you imagine after effects project files was inter-changable
with Sony Vegas, man, Vegas would rise to the top of the food
    chain in two months…lol
