  • Create Shape from Vector Layer – 3d

I made a character in cs6 AI and imported it into cs6 AE. I wanted to try creating a shape from a vector layer and then use the extrusion effect. I have a separate layer for each body part (arms, legs, head, eyes, etc.).

I imported the AI file and set the layer to 3D. The character had all body elements and looked fine in 3d space. I then created the shape layer from the AI character layer and the character’s left arm was gone.

If I deselect the 3D switch on the shape layer, the arm reappears. The arm is present in the contents section. And if I select it in the content list the bounding box highlights but without the object.

Trying different settings on the geometry has no effect on the arm. But the rest of the character extrudes fine.

Does anyone have an idea what would cause this problem.

I finally figured it out. It was an open path on the arm. When I joined the path I got my arm back.

Just thought I would pass along the info.
