Hi, i’m having a problem and i struggle even to come up with keywords to search for it:

I’m making a series similar to this one:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jWG9CD3nkGA

I made a little animated face with controllers from joysticks ‘n sliders and with arms made in rubber hose, and it works pretty well, now i need to make it as an effect so that when i copy it in a new comp a and animate it without messing the animation in other comps, is it possible? i tried to create a project in after effects and than import that project inthe main one every time i need a new copy, but it messes up the expressions.

as an other way to put it: if i create a motion template file for premiere then if i put multiple copies of it in a timeline every copy has his own parameters, changing them in a new copy will not reflect in already present ones.
i need to do the same with a comp in aftter effects.
To duplicate the comp would be very difficult because it has nested comps and changing the name would break some expressions

Is there a solution i am missing?

    Thank you in advance 🙂

It’s early in the morning but I’ll take a stab at this.
Can you save the file and just re-import each file as a different project?
I do this all the time and this way the nested pre-comps don’t get lost.

It sounds like you need to look into Master Properties. You can have as many instances as you want of your character comp – all with different values for each one!
