Create outline for effect?
Very basic question, but I can’t seem to figure this out.
I have some text. I’ve put a Warp effect on it. Now I’d like to create outlines so there are editable points, but with the final vector path appearing like the effect (so that the effect is not necessary).

go to edit >expand appearance

But I found it Object > Expand Appearance. I’m on CS5 — perhaps Adobe moved it 🙂

You’re right… I didn’t have Illustrator open to double check that. Glad it solved your problem…
