Create Ocean Surf that can reveal a picture when it recedes in AE
I want to create an AE project where surf rolls into the frame and when the surf recedes it reveals a photo lying in the sand. Essentially the next surf to come in will act as a wipe to wipe away the previous photo and when the surf receded it will reveal the next photo in line. I cannot figure this out and have been unsuccessful finding a tutorial even slightly related that I could tweak. Any ideas?

If you can find a suitable piece of footage, you might be able to key it or perhaps rotoscope it with Rotobrush to create a matte as Dave described.
