create mask with fx AND have fx on the unmasked part
Hi,
I have some effects (eg saturation) on a clip. I then make a mask as I want to blur out a portion. Problem: all my effects are applied to the mask, but I just want to blur the mask and keep the saturation to the rest.
It seems like it ought to be basic, but I can’t see how to do it.

I would look at the order of the effects in the effects list. Remember, effects can also be placed before the Pan/Crop as well as the default position of after.

I thought that would be the answer but it appears not – so I put two FX before the pan crop and they affected the whole clip – so far so good. I then put one after pan crop and did a mask.
When I then said “mask – apply to fx “YES” – ALL the fx both before and after the pan crop were applied…
If I say “NO” then ALL the fx are applied to the non-mask area…

Apply the effect to the media in the Project Media for the ones you do not want masked. Then the effect will be applied before it ever hits the timeline.

Another thing you can do is have two copies on top of each other. Have the one on top be the masked one with masked FX portion off or whatever, then apply the other effects to the one on the bottom.
