CREATE A MACO IN FCP??? Is it possible?
Posted by Paul Ewen on July 15, 2010 at 1:09 amHow can I make a MACRO setting in FCP? Also, when I do this, can I apply it to many sequences that I have to change with the macro? Do I need a 3rd party software to make macros?

July 15, 2010 at 2:24 amI want to make a macro that will Sequences>setting>load a preset sequence setting and then go to modify>compress video. I have a number of sequences that I have to do this to and it would also be great if I could select all of the sequences and apply this MACRO to it. Is it possible?

July 15, 2010 at 3:28 amYou need to compress a sequence to a different codec? Sorry, I’m still not quite following what are trying to do.

July 15, 2010 at 3:38 amyou can use Macros in FCP, but you cant create them there.
i use QuicKeys. there are other apps.but i suspect there is a better way to do what you want.
and i’m still a bit unclear on what that is as there is no modify>compress video command.do you want to export a bunch of timelines to a different format?
you can use Batch Export for that pretty easily.in batch export you can either export as a QuickTime move, and chose one of the many sequence pre-sets,
or you can Export with QuickTime Conversion.or you can use the Export > “Share” function to use a compressor pre-set.

July 15, 2010 at 4:10 amDoesn’t matter what I want to do except I want to create a MACRO that will record a bunch of functions that I can apply to a sequence or group of sequences. Same way that you can record actions in Photoshop. Does FCP have a way to record actions?

No. As mentioned Quickeys can. I hope you aren’t doing something unnecessary. Just trying to help, and it does matter what you want to do.

July 15, 2010 at 4:38 amOk, I mistakenly set up a whole bunch of sequences with settings that don’t match my original footage. Footage is 1080i/24p Apple Pro-Res and my bad sequences are DVCHD Pro 1440 29.97. So these sequences squished all the footage incorrectly. I was using PluralEyes to sync up thousands of shots to a different audio track. Plural Eyes makes its own sequences with the synced audio. It took me 4 days to sync up everything. I then started making subclips from the BAD sequences and only realized my mistake today. A week later. So, I want to create a MACRO or BATCH MACRO to fix the 100s of sequences that I have to fix. I can do all them by hand, but I want to speed up the process. Is that so wrong???? I usually cut on AVID and forgot that FCP has all of the ridiculous issues with sequence settings. So, now I need to FIX and using a BTACH MACRO would help so much. If I can highlight my sequences and apply the MACRO to change their settings that would be GREAT!!! Help? How do I use Quickeys?

July 15, 2010 at 6:15 ami know in the other thread the issue of frame rate came up.
so as you know you wont be able to match the frame rate if you just change the sequence settings.
are you ok to go with the old frame rate?quickeys, like any macro app just performs a string of user defined functions.
they can be keystrokes, or mouse moves & clicks etc, etc.for this you’d have one sequence selected in the browser,
program a key command to open it;s settings window (Command Zero),
then mouse moves to change the sequence settings.
a key command to confirm the settings (enter or return)
then down arrow to move to the next sequence in the browseras mentioned in the other thread it could be simpler to copy paste into new sequences.
that could be done with keystrokes only.you can program in repeats
the Macros in my experience do take time to program.
a fair bit of trail and practice and testing is involved.
especially with keyboard commands.
the trick is adding pauses to stop QuicKeys getting ahead of FCP.
so maybe recording mouse moves is better for you.as i said, there are other cheaper apps that do the same thing.
