  • Crashing makes clips go off line

This is something that happens to me all the time and I was wondering if anyone knows what I’m doing wrong.
Sometimes I need to move QT media around in the middle of a project. I move the media then reconnect my clips to where the media has been moved to. Simple.
Then whenever I crash (which is frequently because I dare to use Motion but that’s another issue) the sequence always reopens with those exact clips now offline.
It’s a pain in the you know where….

Any ideas, should I just accept this as another FCP frailty.

    Thanks in advance

When you do this do you SAVE? Because I tend to do this too, and I don’t have this issue. Well, I don’t crash all that often. But when I have done this, and crashed…days later…things are fine.

Might be related to issues that are causing the crashing? Crashing shouldn’t be a frequent thing…means there’s a problem.

Yes, I save all the time. The crashing is caused by the fact that I use so many Motion projects in my sequences. I have learned to live with it rather than making endless quicktime movies….
Seems to be just one of those things that makes Final Cut Studio not that stable.

    Thanks anyway.

If it is unstable, why do it? What’s wrong with making QT movies? IF something works better if you do it one way, and keeps your computer from crashing and losing connection to files…why would you opt to “live with it” rather than render out a QT movie, use that, and NOT crash and need to constantly reconnect media?

This makes ZERO sense to me.

If you change the MOTION project, and make a new QT, replace the old one. FCP will update.
