  • Crashes in Final Cut 7.03 with Snowleopard

    Having too frequent crashes- running our FCP system and Apple Pro Res files. We have recently upgraded our system- Final Cut 7.03, latest Snowleopard 10.6.8.; and we have current drivers/firmware for our Kona Card 3. We are running a 14tb RAID drive on the system- through SAS/SATA cables. 2 things have been happening lately- when we have a few timelines/sequences up at once- seems to cause first a flickering image- then and “out of memory” warning and crash;

    also- what happens we’ll get a big timeline/sequence up- or one with EX-1 footage on it- and it will crash straight out with no warning giving us an AJA Video output codec- – error warning.

    Any ideas about what’s happening here? Could this be Kona Card related? Thanks.

    Did you upgrade by installing over FCP6? Best advice here is to do a clean OS and FCS3 install on a new drive.

    Also there have been issues for some people with graphics card and hard drive drivers going from 10.6.7 to 10.6.8 . The .8 upgrade was purely for FCPX and the apps store so if you can avoid this OS upgrade FCS3 will run better.

    Thanks for that advice. We’re in the middle of a big job right now, so a little nervous about changing operating systems. We’ve tried changing the AJA Kona card driver, and shutting off the Kona Card- external output- this seems to have helped for now….it’s more stable.

    I’m having the same FCP/Kona3 problem as Marc (OP) & other posts here;

    Experiencing diminished performance & crashing out of FCP 7.0.3

    crash log states ; “AJA videoOutput Plugin” at issue, although crashing without that particular line, too.

    other issues; flash frames, black ‘frames’, failed renders, “out of memory” messages.

    (multicam) sequence trt: 75 minutes
    Sony XDCAM HD
    FCP project file = 255mb

    ANY help would be Much obliged…
