  • Crash On Start Up – Initializing GPU-Accelerated Video Processing

Posted by Robert Bennett on December 30, 2013 at 12:52 am

I just installed Sony Vagas 12 Pro on my new PC and when I run the application it crashes when it reaches Initializing GPU-Accelerated Video Processing, I have been looking for a few hours now and cant seem to find a fix I have reinstalled drivers and Sony Vegas I have also installed older drivers. No error message pops up and it is just the default windows message box telling me it has stopped working. I have installed it on my laptop with is also running windows 8.1 but it has a GTX 650m I think. I am not sure what to do.

    PC Specs:
    OS: Windows 8.1
GPU: AMD R9 290 – drivers are the newest (13.12)
    CPU: I7 3770K
    RAM: 16 Gb

    Many Regards

Do you have any GPU Enabled plugin installed for Vegas?

You state that this new laptop has the nVidia GTX650m GPU but your list of specs states it has the AMD R9 290 GPU.

The GTX 650m is for laptops (hence the ‘m’ designation), where the R9 290 is a full-length GPU for desktops, and is pretty high-end.

Is this new system a desktop or laptop, and which GPU does the system actually have?

[Dave Osbun] “Is this new system a desktop or laptop, and which GPU does the system actually have?”

If you read his post carefully, he is trying to get Vegas working on his desktop with the AMD GPU and he already has it running on his laptop with the NVIDIA GPU.

For these problems you really need to contact Sony support. They can tell you what logs to send them so that they can see what’s going on. The logs are under:C:\Users\[account]\AppData\Local\Sony\Vegas Pro\12.0\where [account] is the name of your Windows logon account. In fact, you can delete that folder and Vegas Pro will rebuild it the next time you start it so that you can get clean logs.

Glad you got it working. The problem now is what caused it to stop working and don’t re-install whatever that was! I would be very careful about what software you add back.
