This just happened to me today, but was able to use FCP Rescue to fix it. Trashed preferences and it came back up.

    Hope that helps.

This just happened to me for the first time.
I had been having random crashes and general sluggishness. I had some downtime last week so I wiped my main drive clean and reinstalled everything.
Since them I’m having a major crash just about daily and have to do hard reboots. The only constant during these crashes is that FCP is open.
This KGCore crash happened while the machine was rendering a Magic Bullet heavy sequence. Since Magic Bullet is a new addition to my machine and I wonder if it was involved in anybody else’s KGCore crash.

Oh I love the Cow, you problem-solvers are great! So helpful to be able to jump on-line and quickly find saviors.

I am having the same issue of FCP quitting and getting messages about Title 3D plug-ins and KGCore plug-ins (comes up when I try to open a PSD sequence and when I try to change text in Boris). I see a plethora of solutions above, and wondering a few things:

    1. Why this happens? Was it something I did, so I can avoid in the future? Or just an unavoidable bug?
    2. Does anyone recommend any of the above solutions over the others?
    3. Has anyone used the FCS Remover from Digital Rebellion, and if so, would you recommend it?

Sorry for all the inquiries, under deadline (aren’t we all) so I’m scared to make the ‘wrong’ move….

Thanks so much for any guidance!

Based on this thread and other research I’ve done it doesn’t seem like there’s a conclusive answer to any of those questions, April. For me, I never did get anything to work. That one sequence still causes a crash. It first started happening a few months ago when I moved the project from one machine running OS10.4/FCP5 to another one running OS10.5/FCP6. I’ve given up, and resigned myself to the idea that sometime before finishing this doc I’m editing, I’ll have to reconstruct that sequence from scratch.

    Thanks Steve — that’s a bummer.

I guess I’ll keep looking around and hope whatever path I take doesn’t result in catastrophe! Good luck with your project.

Just started getting this message. FCP consistently crashes on the same project when I try the same action:

cut and paste 2 particular master clips from one bin to the another for organizational purposes. It has done it 3 times now. I’m going to trash those master clips and re-import straight from the drive and see if that helps.

It definately seems like a corrupt master clip issue to me.

I’ll let you know if it works.

That seems to have done the trick.

For those of you that can’t even open your projects, have you tried opening the project with your drives unmounted? The project may open and allow you the try to copy everything into a new project. Its worth a shot.

Found one more solution. If your FCP system will not launch at all. Trash all preferences as explained above, and also the Final Cut Pro Thumbnail Data and Thumbnail Cache. This worked on our system v.6.0.5, without a full re-install.

You guys are brilliant. This just happened to me and you gave me some great ideas. Here’s my situation and what worked:

    – I was working on a very busy, 12-track sequence, one of about 100 or so sequences in my project. I had recently added a png and was manipulating it when this crash started. At that point, like many people here, the crash happened as soon as I opened FC (FCE in my case).

    – I suspected the reason the crash happened on startup was related to the particular sequence I was using. Obviously there was no way to close it in time to prevent the crash since the very fact that it was open is what caused the crash. So I took Van Harrell’s suggestion/question and unmounted my drive before opening FCE.

    – Oddly, the png in question was not on the mounted drive but a local drive. Still, for whatever reason, this allowed me to open FCE without crashing. I was able to make a copy of the corrupt sequence, delete the png, and close all the sequences.

    – I remounted the drive and opened various sequences without any problem, including the copy without the png. When I opened the sequence with my new png, yep – it crashed. So the problem was obviously some corruption either in the file or on the hard drive at that location.

What I still don’t understand is how unmounting my drive affected a corruption in a *local* file. But the problem is fixed and I didn’t have to uninstall anything (whew). Good news for me since I’m on a deadline, too.

And that “KGCore” crap is SUCH a red herring!! Boo Apple!

I had the same crash report and really made a mess of things. Seeing that KGCore was called a “plug-in”, I found 3 files with the name in them and trashed them AND emptied the trash. My thinking was that these were typical plug-ins. But I had found them in a Framework folder so I think they were fundamental. Trying to be clever, I thought perhaps installing the latest update would take care of the problem. But the update for FCP 6.06 will only install on top of 6.05. I have 6.03, not having kept up. So I downloaded Pro Applications update 2008-05 which is supposed to have 6.05 included (as listed on apple’s web site) but doesn’t. I can’t open FCP at all. Can’t even use it to open a quicktime file that has nothing to do with the project that crashed. Trashed preferences.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
