  • Covert FCP7 project file to FCPX without FCP7: Is this possible?

Posted by Alan Hayman on January 2, 2015 at 3:22 am

My iMac crashed earlier this year, so I no longer have access to FCP7 or a machine that will run it. I purchased a new Mac, and now have FCPX. It looks like there’s an app that will convert FCP7 projects to X, but you need FCP7 to export it to .xml.

Is there any way to do this without FCP7? It’s really important, because the project I need to convert involves several weeks of work, and I need to finish it soon. I don’t care if I lose some of the formatting (fonts, color, etc), as long as the edit is still in tact.

If this is not possible, can anyone suggest a workaround? The old computer will still work if I boot off an external drive, with FCP7 installed, but I’m not sure how to do that either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You need FCP 7 in order to export an XML from it for the conversion tool. Find someone with FCP and have them export the XML for you.
