Covering lens from splashes of water
Hi,
I will be filming some nature footage and will almost certainly film near a river bank with the prospect of splashes hitting the lens.
What would be the best solution to avoid this or make it easy to wipe off – without affecting the lens.
I think with my recent Canon lens, it comes with a UV filter fitted over the lens, so maybe something like this or a slab of perspex over the lens?

I keep a Tiffen UV filter over all my lenses as a matter of course whenever I shoot and this means that you can only damage a filter rather than the front element of a lens. It’s easy to wipe a filter if you keep lens cleaning wipes handy.

Do these types of filters affect shooting in low light – ie bars / clubs (weddings / nightclubs etc)?

Using a UV/protector filter means about a 2% drop in light coming into the lens. There are also straight clear filters available and the drop in the light percentage with one of those will be negligible.
My test was done using a Sony EX1R.
